Base oil is the primary raw material in the production of lubricants, greases, and other petrochemical products. At RAHA OIL, we supply high-quality base oils derived from carefully refined crude oil, ensuring excellent performance in automotive, industrial, and specialty applications.

Base oils typically make up 70–95% of a finished lubricant, meaning their characteristics directly influence the efficiency, stability, and lifespan of the final product.

What is Base Oil?

Base oil is produced through a series of refining processes, including:

  • Distillation – adjusting viscosity and flash point

  • Solvent Extraction (Furfural) – improving viscosity index

  • Dewaxing (M.E.K process) – enhancing low-temperature performance

  • Hydrofinishing – removing impurities such as sulfur and nitrogen

The result is Solvent Neutral (SN) Base Oil, classified into grades based on viscosity at 40°C, such as SN 150, SN 350, SN 500, and SN 650.

Main Types of Base Oil

1. Paraffinic Base Oils (Group I & II)

Paraffinic base oil (PBO) is a refined mineral oil with outstanding lubricating performance.

Key Features:

  • Superior lubrication and wear protection

  • Excellent high-temperature stability

  • High oxidation resistance for long service life

  • Good solubility with additives

Applications:

  • Engine oils (automotive & industrial)

  • Hydraulic fluids

  • Gear oils & compressor lubricants

  • Heat transfer fluids

2. Naphthenic Base Oils (Group V)

Naphthenic base oils (NBOs) are derived from crude petroleum with unique solvency and low-temperature properties.

Key Features:

  • Exceptional solvency for additives

  • Excellent cold-weather performance

  • Naturally low wax content (minimal dewaxing required)

  • Stable color and appearance

Applications:

  • Metalworking fluids

  • Transformer oils

  • Adhesives, sealants & printing inks

  • Specialty greases & lubricants

  • Process oils in rubber and plastics

3. Synthetic Base Oils (Group III, IV & V)

Synthetic base oils (SBOs) are chemically engineered for superior performance compared to mineral oils.

Key Features:

  • Wide temperature range (extreme cold/heat)

  • High oxidation resistance → extended oil life

  • Low volatility → reduced oil loss

  • Excellent shear stability under high stress

Applications:

  • High-performance automotive engines

  • Gear & transmission lubricants

  • Long-life industrial greases

  • Hydraulic fluids for extreme conditions
